WODEN was established in 2013 by Carsten Holm, a shoemaker with a long history in the shoe industry. He realized that nature and the Scandinavian design tradition combined with the DNA of the sneaker and high quality at a reasonable price would be the perfect foundation for creating a fashionable Scandinavian sneaker. Today, we call this Scandinavian Simplicity.
THE SUSTAINABLE APPROCH
With respect for the environment and our surroundings, WODEN takes a sustainable approach: REDUCE. REUSE. RECYCLE. We want to be more than just a sneaker. We strive to constantly push the boundaries for how shoes can be constructed, focusing on giving our shoes a greener footprint. We have therefore replaced as many synthetic materials as possible with materials such as fish leather as the WODEN DNA, a minimum of 10% recycled rubber in our outsoles and eco-friendly cork insoles in all our shoes.
Each WODEN sneaker comprises more than 115 components from different facilities. The majority of WODEN sneakers are manufactured in Vietnam, where we have our own quality controller on site to check our production line.
Our WODEN employees in Vietnam, as well as in Denmark, are very precious to us. We therefore comply with all current rules and regulations regarding pay, terms of employment and working conditions in the areas where we operate.
WODEN HIE is manufactured in Portugal. HIE stands for Handmade in Europe. Portugal has a strong and celebrated profile for manufacturing high-quality leather shoes. And we are honored to continue this tradition in the WODEN DNA. In Portugal, we collaborate with a local partner who has carried out our production since 2013.
